A simulation study of a bi-directional load-exchangeable automated guided vehicle system
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper proposes a new design for a bi-directional automated guided vehicle (AGV) system, in which two AGVs can exchange their loads, their scheduled transportation tasks, and even their vehicle numbers when they move in opposite directions. With this load-exchangeable AGV (EX-AGV) system, common problems such as conflicts and deadlocks will not occur; therefore, the load of an AGV is always on its shortest path, resulting in higher system performance and avoiding unnecessary waiting times and detours. An off-line mathematical model and on-line control rules are proposed for the EX-AGV system. A series of simulation experiments is carried out; the results show that the EX-AGV system performs efficiently and robustly. 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

We compare two approaches for a Markovian model in flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) using Monte Carlo simulation. The model which is a development of Fazlollahtabar and Saidi-Mehrabad (2013), considers two features of automated flexible manufacturing systems equipped with automated guided vehicle (AGV) namely, the reliability of machines and the reliability of AGVs in a multiple AGV jobsho...
متن کاملTwo optimal algorithms for finding bi-directional shortest path design problem in a block layout
In this paper, Shortest Path Design Problem (SPDP) in which the path is incident to all cells is considered. The bi-directional path is one of the known types of configuration of networks for Automated Guided Vehi-cles (AGV).To solve this problem, two algorithms are developed. For each algorithm an Integer Linear Pro-gramming (ILP) is determined. The objective functions of both algorithms are t...
متن کاملA Threshold Accepting Algorithm for Partitioning Machines in a Tandem Automated Guided Vehicle
Abstract : A tandem automated guided vehicle (AGV) system deals with grouping workstations into some non-overlapping zones , and assigning exactly one AGV to each zone. This paper presents a new non-linear integer mathematical model to group n machines into N loops that minimizes both inter and intra-loop flows simultaneously. Due to computational difficulties of exact methods in solving our pr...
